  • Let me introduce myself. I'm Ollie Weijermars, born in the year of 1988.
I finished the Art and Design program at the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and I've worked as a part-time graphic designer ever since.
Still there was something missing, I searched for something less static than art and graphical design. I wanted something that the viewer can be part of. The study Interaction Design, which I finished, matches completely with my ambitions.
Since then I've acquired a variety of skills and I am an all rounder with the focus on designing a product that conforms the needs of the target group. I think it is important to design with your target group instead of just for them.

    Kosmo Recyclenaut

    Interactive trashbin teaching about recycling

    My Role

Kosmo the Recyclenaut is a project commissioned by Gemeente Utrecht. The goal is to make children more aware of sustainability. After field research, playing and talking with the children, we took a couple of steps back as we found out that the subject was too complicated.
I repeatedly went back to our target group, to test our paper prototypes, to make sure that our message came across. We have tried out various themes, and art styles which I have made the concept art of, to make sure it appeals to the children.
In the development stage I was partly responsible for the programming, and I have made all of the visual elements in the game in the game. As well as the motion design, animations, video editing for the teaser and making the website for the project.

    My Role

Our target group was upper middleclass women, between the ages of 35 to 40 years. My role was to define the content and to design the way we would communicate the content with our target group.
I had to keep in mind to make the interactions minimal, as not to scare off our target group. With this in mind I designed the interaction of the blocks.

I did the photoshoot and photo editing for the final product. Also, during the project I took it upon me to keep the entire team on track.
    P!T Groepsbeheer

    Usable interface for all

P!t Groepsbeheer is an application for P!t museum. During my internship at Studio Louter, we were working on applications for the museum. These applications created a very immersive experience through various simulations and quizzes.
At the end of their trip through the museum, the visitors can log into the app to see their score presented in the form of a newspaper article.
The users of this application were retired volunteers, that didn’t have a lot of experience with computers.

At the right is a rough, partly functional prototype of the app. You can click it to try it out!
    My Role

My task was to design the interface of the group managing app. It was very important that the app is easy to use, as the average user is not very computer savvy. This way they wouldn’t be able to make a lot of mistakes.
To make it extra clear that the application is used for the group management, I matched the visual style of the other apps.

    My Role

As a group we had a few weeks to come up with a concept for Apple TV that would generate millions. With this in mind we choose to design something to enhance the commercial breaks. My role in this project was to design the interface and visual style.
    Voor Elkaar

    Forum for the recently retired

Many people don't know what to do after they have retired and get into the "black hole". In order to prevent this, we came up with a concept to make them feel like they're still contributing.
With this app, seniors can get into contact with young people seeking help. Young people often have the problem that they lack experience. The elderly can choose to help the youngsters.
Both benefit from this. The elderly have social contact, they feel useful and can contribute. The youngsters often have less time and gain experience from the elderly.

Here you see an info graphic poster and video to explain the benefits of this concept.
    My Role

In this project I have done research on the target group, and helped define the concept. Also I was responsible for the info animation.
    Pixul

Interactive licht installation to stimulate collaboration

Pixul is a modular interactive light installation, placed in clubs, at festivals or parties. It stimulates cooperation between two groups of people in a playful and experimental way.
Pixul is an interactive installation with pads on which people can dance, the installation gives individual feedback on the movements which the person makes. This feedback is in the form of light patterns and various colors depending on the moves the person makes.
When the installation detects cooperation between multiple people, all of the individual feedback will turn into one spectacular lightshow.

Through the cooperation and the shared experience, Pixul will lower the social barrier, thus making it easier to make contact with the other players.
    My Role

This was a solo project, which I have made from the beginning to the end. This includes a lot of research, prototyping and programming. But the focus lies on designing and building the physical components.
